So, let's say there's a person who did a lot for you, and even though you still can't really take it in you feel like you should at the very least try to do something back for them in return. Since it's only natural, and maybe you want to show you care as well or whatever. Something like that.

But all the things they did are so big combined that you can't even start to think of something that would be big enough or of equal value to give in return. So.. what should you even do in a situation like that?

It's snowing, I'm going to make some hot cocoa and drink it at the porch. Do you want some?

[ There might be the slightest moment where she looks awkward or hesitant, but it slips away immediately afterwards as she just gets her usual deadpan on, nodding a little. ]

Sure. I shouldn't stay out too long in the cold though, I easily catch a cold or worse. But a little while should be fine. [ yes, this means she's coming outside with you, okay. :| ]

[His smile grows a bit wider.]

If going outside is too much maybe we could just sit by the window. I don't want you to get sick or anything.

No, it's fine to go outside for a little bit. Besides, I want to. [ she brushes back some of her hair. ]

I've already survived autumn this far without a single cold, after all. I could risk it.

Perfect then! We will just make sure you're wrapped up warm and the cocoa is hot. Why don't you get a coat and some blankets while I prepare it?

[He laughs and goes to prepare the hot cocoa as fast as possible. We don't want to make the lady wait, do we?]

[ When he comes out with the cocoa, he'll find Ange already sitting there - and she did what he said. Her coat is hanging loosely over her shoulders, and she took along some blankets (enough so there's some for Keiichi too) to further cover themselves with against the cold. She's just sitting there quietly, apparently lost in thought as she's staring at the snow. ]

A yen for your thoughts?

[Keiichi can't help it, she looks so thoughtful. He smiles as he offers her a warm cup, wearing a coat himself before he sits besides her and borrows a bit of the blankets.]

I like it when it snows like this, it's cold but not too cold and it's a nice view.

[ She just shakes her head softly at that, before taking the cup and holding it between her hands, as if warming said hands up thanks to the cup and the warmth coming from it. ]

I agree. [ she blows a little on the drink to make it cool so she won't burn her tongue. ] When it's just cold, there's no use to it. But at least when it snows, you still have something more or less pretty to look at if you feel bored.

[He blows at his cup as well, if she doesn't want to share her thoughts that's okay, he won't pry. Besides he's content enough with just being there.]

That's true. I've never got to see how Hinamizawa looked when winter comes, but I hope it looks somewhat like this. It's not something to do everyday, but sitting here wrapped up warm and with a hot cocoa cup in your hands is enjoyable. Specially with good company.

Yeah... If anyone would have told me about this too I wouldn't have believed it either. Maybe a similar situation but not like this.

Still, it's not a bad thing. In fact, I'd only say my situation has improved since then. [ by a lot, actually, even if she doesn't voice it that much - but she really has gotten a better situation to live in rather than that utter loneliness with Bernkastel's presence looming over her from a few months ago.

Mine too. Things are looking better than ever, I would dare to say. Right now I wouldn't mind even if Takano appeared next month.

It feels at times as if things changed too fast, but if I think about it, it's more like I was just too slow to start them when I should have.

... Takano? [ Well, judging from what he told her before.. could it maybe be that nurse he spoke about from his own world, the one who killed the village? She can't imagine who else showing up would be such a disaster, so.. ] Is that the woman you mentioned before? Tch, she better not show up here.

Yes... Miyo Takano was her name when we met her. She wasn't a bad nurse and I know that probably she was just as much of a victim as we all were, she was used by other people. Still I can't forgive her, I will never be able to forgive her, even if I forget what I know now. That doesn't mean I can't try to give her a chance in honor of a friend... But it would depend on how she comes and such.

[At any rate it's clear he would prefer if she didn't appear. He laughs at her question.]

It went perfectly fine. Maybe the way things went was simply perfect, but I can't deny it hasn't taken a long time of planning.

[Let's not mention it would have taken longer if it hadn't been for that experiment.]

No, I get it. Even though I was able to understand Eva oba-san a little more when I grew up, I still couldn't forgive her for everything. And since the case with this Takano is even more serious, I can imagine you wouldn't be able to forgive her. To be honest, I wouldn't be able to forgive her either for what she did for you.

It's okay. I'm used to waiting. [ besides, they're not officially boyfriend and girlfriend yet, okay, the plan isn't fully done yet. ] As long as the end result is good it's okay, right?

Yeah... Well, I know that forgiveness is over-rated anyway. You don't need to forgive and forget to go on in life. Sometimes things can't be forgiven, but that just means you have to make sure to never make the same mistakes again.

[Keiichi smiles, feeling how she cares.]

[He laughs at the part regarding her being used to waiting. And who said the plan aimed for that end?]

Yes, that's true. All that ends well, went well. I just worry that waiting too much may lead to a lost chance.

Not at all. [ she sips from her drink again, pausing as if she's thinking on where to start. ] My family died when I was six, and the only person who survived the incident in which they all died was my aunt, Eva Ushiromiya, so she got to take me in since we were the last remaining members of the Ushiromiya family. But.. of course we were both feeling pain from losing our families, but she took it all out on me. I could never do anything right in her eyes, and I was scolded and reprimanded and made fun of all the time. After I was old enough she sent me off to some rich girls' boarding school just to be rid of me. I thought 'good riddance', but unfortunately things weren't much better at that school either.

[ she shrugs a little though, trying to remain casual over it. ]

[Keiichi listens in silence, not saying anything even after she's done with the short story. It's sad but he can't help to think that after all both of them were hurt and see it more as a tragedy than the aunt being horrible. They should have been able to heal together and live on together, but they couldn't and this time it's hard to see why or who was at fault. With Satoko it was easier, her uncle and her aunt hit her and treated her like a slave, torturing her just because... Even if Eva wasn't the best aunt in the world it doesn't sound as if she was as bad as those two were.]

For now, yeah, it is. But I'm not done yet.

[ There's almost something faintly amused in the way she's sipping her drink now. ]
